Design orientation, not certification. Each of these shaped a decision; none of them has been asked to bless the result.
USPS Intelligent Mail
A serialized Intelligent Mail barcode is a 65-bar postal barcode used to sort and track letters and flats. USPS states that uniquely serialized barcodes facilitate tracking individual ballot mailpieces to and from voters and support mailstream visibility services.
What it contributed: the decision to treat postal data as transport evidence and never as the election credential. Which data feed a jurisdiction may lawfully integrate is an open decision, not an assumption.
NIST SP 1500-101
The Election Event Logging Common Data Format Specification defines a common data format for election event logs — structured event identifiers, event types, timestamps, sources, outcomes and interoperable export.
What it contributed: the shape of the event record. Well-defined types, unique IDs, system and source identification, actor context where applicable, and standardised exchange rather than a proprietary log format.
EAC VVSG 2.0
The Voluntary Voting System Guidelines 2.0 principles emphasise cybersecurity, auditability, common data formats, accessibility, voter privacy, ballot secrecy and software independence.
What it contributed: the hard boundary. A lifecycle system must not create a practical means to trace voter identity to voter selections — which is the constraint every other decision here bends around.
RFC 8032 · Ed25519
The IETF specification for Edwards-curve digital signatures, including the §7.1 test vectors this implementation reproduces byte for byte.
What it contributed: interoperability. A signature written today has to be verifiable by other software in a decade, which is why the vectors are run in the reader's browser rather than merely cited.
What is not claimed
This is not a claim of EAC certification, VVSG conformance, USPS approval, NIST endorsement or legal compliance in any jurisdiction. No standards body has reviewed this. If a jurisdiction classifies a product like this as voting-system equipment, or integrates it into a certified voting workflow, the applicable certification and testing requirements are determined by that jurisdiction.
Anything on this site that reads like a guarantee is a guarantee about this implementation's behaviour, and every one of those is executable on the verification page. Claims about what a deployed system would do are design intent, and are labelled as such.
Adoption is voluntary
Elections in the United States are administered by states and local jurisdictions. Nothing here assumes, requires or advocates a federal or executive mandate, and a jurisdiction adopting any part of this does so on its own authority, on its own timetable, under its own law — with the open decisions on the specification page answered first.
